Graduating high school opens a lot of doors. For some, that path leads straight into the trades. At Interstate Sawing, we’ve made it a priority to connect with local students and show them the exciting opportunities available through demolition careers. From school job fairs to advisory boards, we’re investing in the next generation of hardworking professionals.

Building Connections with Local High Schools

Interstate Sawing is proud to be actively involved in helping students explore careers in demolition and the trades. We’ve taken part in job fairs at West Bend High School, Slinger High School, and Dodgeland High School, giving students firsthand insights into what a future in concrete cutting, core drilling, and demolition can look like. These events help us connect directly with curious, hands-on learners who are ready to jump into the workforce.

We’re also proud of our ongoing collaboration with Slinger High School. Our Marketing Director, Haley Long, serves on the board of advisors for the trade programs. Her role helps shape and support efforts that prepare students for real-world trade careers. She empowers students to learn the skills that align with what employers like us are looking for.

Why Demolition Is a Smart Career Choice

Demolition work is more than just tearing things down. It’s a skilled trade that combines physical ability, technical knowledge, and strategic thinking. For high school graduates who prefer being active, working with their hands, and seeing tangible results from their efforts, this field offers a strong and stable career path.

A few key qualities help new professionals thrive in demolition:

  • Safety awareness: Every job site has hazards, so staying alert and following safety protocols is a top priority. A strong safety mindset keeps the team productive and prevents injuries.
  • Physical stamina: Demolition work involves lifting, bending, standing, and moving for extended periods. It’s a great fit for people who enjoy staying active and working with their hands.
  • Problem-solving skills: No two job sites are the same. Figuring out the best way to remove a structure or adapting to unexpected challenges requires the ability to think critically.
  • Clear communication: Demolition crews work closely together, often in fast-paced environments. Listening, asking questions, and giving clear instructions help keep everyone on the same page.
  • Interest in machinery: From saws and drills to skid steers and other heavy equipment, an interest in learning how to operate tools and machines safely is a big advantage.
  • Reliability and a willingness to learn: Showing up on time, being ready to work, and staying open to learning new skills makes a big difference. Employers are always looking for dependable team members who are eager to grow.

For graduates who are ready to get to work and thrive in an active, hands-on environment, demolition offers a path with real momentum. This is a career where they can build experience quickly. Additionally, they can take pride in meaningful work, and be part of a crew that contributes to every job site.
